What We Do
The Preservation of Schauer Park - members of the association fought to keep Schauer Park from being turned by the County into a Safe Harbor site. The Safe Harbor designation would have enlarged the park, opening it to increased car, boat and personal watercraft traffic. This in turn would have required extensive dredging and deepening of the adjoining bottom structure of the lake. Spurred by the initial momentum of our opposition, a number of local residents banded together in 2011 to acquire a parcel of land which effectively thwarted the County’s Safe Harbor plan.
Propane discounts - the association has negotiated discounted propane pricing from an area supplier for our members.
Support for Civic Projects - our members raised funds to help the Town of Jacksonport Fire Department purchase a rescue craft for boating or swimming emergencies.
Support for Environmental Projects - our members have joined to lend a hand on lakeshore clean-up efforts, phragmite and other invasive species control initiatives and other environmental issues.
A number of our members also actively monitor County and Town government proceedings and relay concerns and other news to members. We are also exploring how we can provide opportunities for members to meet one another and socialize.
We have opportunities for our members to become involved in various committees as well.
